I'm a sixth year PhD candidate in English, finishing my dissertation this year (goal is a December defense!) I work on intersections of gender, science, and imperialism in late 19th century British gothic fiction, and am currently working on a chapter about Egypt and Richard Marsh's The Beetle.

I teach in the Gen Ed Lit program in English, and my fall course will explore crime writing as a genre; I also work as a tutor in the Writing Center, and help with programming in Engineering's Hanson Center for Communication. My hobbies include long walks with an audiobook, crafting (knitting, crochet, embroidery), reading and writing constantly, and obeying the fickle whims of my feline overlord, Frodo Stoker Fluffinbeans (shown below).

This summer, I hope to complete two chapters and my fall course planning. Good news: I'm a quick and efficient researcher and writer when I manage to get down to it. Bad news: the managing to get down to it. As an academic with only recently diagnosed adult ADHD, I have built a thousand work-arounds, coping systems, and lists for managing time as well as possible. I like to think the upside of this is that I am chock-full of resources for students when they ask about time management. In the next two weeks, I'm planning to get some chapter writing done, and hopefully my course syllabus

Week 1

Day 1:

Goals: organizing and building a to-do list for my week to come, starting fall syllabus

Progress Report: going okay--got list set up, need to start syllabus

Reflection: Time going much faster than I anticipated!

Day 2

Goals: free write, reading and taking notes on one chapter of GF,  transfer notes to text

    Progress Report:

    Reflection:

Reflection on the Week: whew! Fell off the map here. I got some work done and thought a little more realistically about my goals.

Week 2

Day 2: I'm working on outlining a chapter on India and ghosts--the goal is to have a very rough outline today that I will work on polishing tomorrow.
